Why leggings make you fat

Eek! The wardrobe staple is not helping our shapes. Leggings have been found to make our thigh, bum and tummy muscles lazy which results in them being less svelte.

The revival of leggings from the 80s into the noughties was well received. Summer dresses could be reincarnated into autumn pieces teamed with trusty leggings. And that’s before we start celebrating what leggings have done for our wardrobes. So it’s hard for Lipstick to report that the lycra essential are harming our figures.
Physiotherapist Sammy Margo warns leggings can cause the muscles to relax which results in less definition and tone on your thighs, buttocks and stomach. Leggings are almost too clever for their own good! They’re designed to hold in and support the lower muscle groups and as a result the muscles relax and switch off. ‘They support the quadriceps (thigh muscles), buttocks and core muscles in your tummy, and do the job the muscles are supposed to do’ says Sammy.
But it’s not just their makeup that has caused leggings to be criticized, Sammy believes that coveting the comfortable attire stops us from taking steps to tone up. We’re starting to practice an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mentality when it comes to legs and tummies. Leggings hide the bits of the bodies women more commonly dislike such as cellulite on our legs and muffin tops. And Sammy believes this is another reason why out wobbly bits are even wobblier. 'We’re able to ignore the problem and we’re less motivated to exercise these parts,’ added Sammy.
Would this news stop you from wearing leggings?
